Tandem’s ability to listen to our needs and maintain clear channels of communication were the basis of a great project. The team’s consistency across all facets of the project was impressive and allowed for a safe and cost effective build.

Tandem was a design and construction development partner for the former Council depot site in conjunction with Pentroth Pty Ltd, and the City of Adelaide, undertaking sales and marketing, design and documentation and construction. Combining the old and the new, the project involved construction of 190 high to medium density dwellings within the precinct, including the sympathetic restoration of existing heritage-listed buildings, the renowned on site ‘Chimney’ and the building that now houses a popular inner-city restaurant. A range of housing product was required to meet the broad range of market demand, which was limited at the time as this was one of the first medium density projects in the South Eastern quarter of the City square mile. The site contained some significant challenges being heavily contaminated from previous uses. Tandem worked in partnership to run the remediation and approval process within the statutory framework of the time. This leadership position taken by Tandem and Pentroth remained one of the few City based medium-high density master planned residential precincts of this quality for many years. The project has aged well, testament to the architectural design, masterplanning, civil development and build quality and has received numerous industry awards.
