Completed in 2022, Ocea is located in the heart of the new Charles Street precinct within the Commercial and General WEST development. Ocea is a 4-level complex consisting of 42 apartments with undercroft carparking and 4 retail tenancies at street level, situated in an elevated position overlooking Football Park.
The building is an efficient precast and steel structure that wraps around the existing Carls Jr. site to the west and sits immediately adjacent to the Mosaic Hotel on the southern boundary. Tandem faced the challenge of ensuring that minimal impact was had on these neighbouring and fully operational businesses during the construction phase. A carefully considered build methodology ensured that this was delivered with success.
Ocea is the first apartment building in the WEST development to include car stackers for the building’s residents. These were constructed using in-ground pre-cast pits to provide parking for 28 vehicles, with the remaining 17 carparking spaces provided on the ground.
As part of the scope for this contract, Tandem also completed the fitouts for three of the major ground floor retail spaces: Italian restaurant, Lombra; the new WEST Sales Centre; and Lebanese restaurant, Zayt and Zaatar.
